AAAL Supports 2023 AAPI Youth Leadership Summit

AAAL proudly co-sponsored and co-organized the 2023 North Carolina Youth Leadership & Civic Engagement Summit, which was held in Cary, North Carolina on August 19th, 2023. The event featured amazing debates, presentations and knowhow for civic engagement and leadership development.

 

Dr. Zhu attends AAPI Cultural Heritage Month Celebration 

On May 6, 2024, in celebration of AAPI Heritage Month, Dr. Chaowei Zhu was invited to the Governor’s Mansion to witness the signing of North Carolina’s proclamation recognizing May as AAPI Cultural Heritage Month.

 

AAAL Supports 2024 AAPI Youth Leadership Summit

In July 22-27, AAAL Team  supported the 2024 Emerging Youth Leaders Summit jointly hosted by MOVENC and APAPA Carolinas. This year’s event was another great success. We are happy to see these AAPI teens’ growth and progress and are grateful for the support and commitment from our participants, organizers, counselors, parents, partners, guests, speakers, panelists, elected officials and Michael Hoeppner, our teens’ speech coach!

 

Celebrating TISA As the 1st Multi-Language Immersion Public Charter School in the Triad Area

The AAAL team supported APAPA Carolinas and other organizations in making the September 21 Community Day a great success. Nearly 400 people attended the event, including Mayor Cyril Jefferson, High Point Councilwoman Amanda Cook, Councilmen Tyrone Johnson and Tim Andrew, and Greensboro At-Large Councilwoman Marikay Abuziater. Together, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month and highlighted Triad International Studies Academy, the first multi-language immersion public charter school in the Triad area. 

AAAL co-sponsors "Fill the Space" community event

The Dec 10th 2022 “Fill The Space” Public Performance Workshop attracted over 100 participants from all over the Triangle Area in North Carolina. What an amazing opportunity for more folks from the AAPI community to know APAPA Carolinas! We are so grateful to our wonderful participants and all the positive comments and feedback received.

Dr. Chaowei Zhu talks about AAPI leadership

On Dec 10, 2022, Dr. Chaowei Zhu attended a community event at Chapel Hill Library and talks about AAPI leadership to Chinese community members attending the “Fill the Space” Public Performance Workshops. He thanked all attendees for supporting APAPA Carolinas’ community service and revealed the APAPA Carolinas will host more leadership-focused free community events for AAPIs in the Carolinas. 

Dr. Chaowei Zhu elected the Founding President of APAPA Carolinas

On Oct 22, 2022, Dr. Chaowei Zhu attended the first offline meeting of APAPA Carolina Chapter Organizing Committee and was elected the Founding President of APAPA Carolinas Chapter.  The Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA)  is a nonpartisan nonprofit founded in 2001 with over 40 chapters across the country. Our APAPA Chapters are volunteer driven with new chapters expanding across the country every year. 

AAAL receives the Certificate of Existence

On April 6, 2021. AAAL received its Certificate of Existence from the Office of Secretary of State of South Carolina.

AAAL becomes an official partner of SCCMA

On April 30, AAAL president Dr. Chaowei Zhu signed a MOU with the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs.

Cen is recognized as an AAAL founding member

On May 9, 2021, Mr. Weiquan Cen was recognized by AAAL as a founding member. 

AAAL supports the 1st SC AAPI Youth Civic Engagement Conference

On May 21, 2021, AAAL proudly supported and successfully promoted the first South Carolina Civic Engagement Conference for AAPI Youth. The conference was hosted by SC Commission for Minority Affairs. 

AAAL at Columbia International Festival

June 5-6, AAAL attended the Columbia International Festival representing the AAPI communities. 

AAPI with FBI directors

On June 13, AAAL cohosted (together with CAC) the FBI Meeting with AAPI Community Event. 11 AAPI organization representatives attended this event. 

Servant Leadership and Community Service course sponsored

A new course on servant leadership and community service to be developed by Dr. Chaowei Zhu has been approved and will be sponsored by the Leadership and Character program of Wake Forest University.
